RUNNING GUN by Marty Robins
[D]I rode out of Kansas City,going/ s[G7]outh to Mexico
I was/ [A]running dodging danger,left the[G7]/ girl that I loved s[D]o
Far behind lay Kansas City and the/ [G7]past that I had earned
Twenty/ n[A]otches on my six gun marked the/ le[G7]ssons I had learn[D]ed
Many ti[G7]mes I sold my fast gun for a/ [D]place to lay my head
Till the/ [G7]nights began to haunt me by the/[D] men that I lay dea[A]d
Couldn't/ [D]stand it any longer with the/[G7] life that I'd begun
So I/ [A]said good-bye to Jeannie and/ [G7]became a running [D]gun
I rode into Amarillo as the s[G7]un sank in the west
My t[A]houghts in Kansas City and the g[G7]irl that I love best[D]
As I smiled and kissed her gently and then t[G7]urned around to go
Said I'd s[A]end for her to meet me when I re[G7]ached old Mexico[D]
[G7]I had barely left the saddle and my f[D]oot just touched the ground
When a c[G7]old voice from the shadows told me n[D]ot to turn around[A]
Said he n[D]ew about my fast gun,new the pr[G7]ice paid by the law
Challenged by a[A] bounty hunter,so I tu[G7]rned around to draw[D]
I [D]knew someday I'd meet him for his h[G7]and like lightning flashed
My o[A]wn gun stayed in leather as his bu[G7]llet tore it's pat[D]h
As my strength was slowly fading,I could see h[G7]im walk away
And I k[A]new that where I lie today,he to[G7] must lie some day[D]
[G7]Now my strength is slowly fading and my e[D]yes are growing dim
And my t[G7]houghts return to Jeannie
and the [D]home that we had planned[A]
Oh please [D]tell her won't you mister
that she's s[G7]till the only one
But a w[A]oman's love is waisted when she [G7]loves a running gun[D]
Cheers!!!
