This song is pretty simple, but there are some slightly tricky subtleties. Almost Beatlesque.
Tuning: Standard
Intro: B7, Bb7sus, Bb, D#
Note: I would emphasize the "middle four" strings on these chords since these are the
ones that seem to be played on the song.
Verse: Cm, G#, D#, Bb
Note: The timing is really important here. Chords should be strummed on that exact
Oh and feel free to add a slap or something between chords since there is a beat of nothing.
From the moment the [G#]lights went off,[D#]
Everything had [Bb]changed.[Cm]
Lie awake in an [G#]empty room,
In my [D#]head it all feels the [Bb]same.[Cm]
Like the taste of the [G#]day you left,
It still [D#]lingers on my [Bb]breath.[Cm]
And the dampness of [G#]tears that left,
That [D#]stain where you had [Bb]wept.[Cm]
All alone with the [G#]negligee,
That still [D#]hangs off of my [Bb]bed.[Cm]
I keep meaning to [G#]give it away,
But I [D#]just leave it there in[Bb]stead.
Chorus: Cm, Cm/Bb, G#, D#, B7,
Bb, D#
Note: This is very subtle, but DO NOT play Bb after that Cm. Only the bass note moves,
the chord is still on Cm. If you play Bb, it will sound very wrong.
No need to [Cm/Bb]cry about it,[G#]
I can not [D#]live without it,
[B7]Every time I [Bb7sus]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.[Cm]
Why do you [Cm/Bb]do this to me?[G#]
You pene[D#]trate right through me.
[B7]Every time I [Bb7sus]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.
Verse 2 has the same rhythm and same chords as Verse 1.
3 more days ?til I see your face,
I?m afraid it?s far too much.
Cook a meal and fix up the place,
Dial your number, hang it up.
If I took you for granted,
I apologize for acting tough.
You?re my reason for living,
And there?s no way I?m giving up, oh.
Chorus 2 has the same rhythm and same chords as Chorus 1.
No need to cry about it,
I can not live without it,
Every time I wind up back at your door.
Why do you do this to me?
You penetrate right through me.
Every time I wind up back at your door.
Bridge: Gm7, Fm7, G#, D#, G#, Bb
Now [Gm7]every [Fm7]evening is a [G#]bitter [D#]fight,
And I?m [Gm7]eating all [Fm7]alone on a [G#]Friday [D#]night.
And I [Gm7]know what your [Fm7]friends say,
?He?s just [G#]wasting your love and [D#]time.?
G# (crescendo) Bb (back to Cm)
I will never let you change your mind.
Chorus 3: Cm, Cm/Bb, G#, D#, (G#,
Bb, D#) or (B7, Bb7sus, Bb, D#)
Note: Another subtlety. The last line switches between some slight chord variations.
a look.
No need to [Cm/Bb]cry about it,[G#]
I can not [D#]live without it,
[G#]Every time I [D#]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.[Cm]
Why do you [Cm/Bb]do this to me?[G#]
You pene[D#]trate right through me.
[B7]Every time I [Bb7sus]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.[Cm]
No need to [Cm/Bb]cry about it,[G#]
I may just [D#]die without it,
[G#]Every time I [D#]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.[Cm]
Why do you [Cm/Bb]do this to me?[G#]
You pene[D#]trate right through me.
[B7]Every time I [Bb7sus]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.
[B7]Every time I [Bb7sus]wind up [Bb]back at your [D#]door.
B7 Bb7sus Bb D#maj7 (surprise!)
Every time I wind up back at your door.
Final Note: I will list some of the chords. All regular chords (I.E. G#, Bb, D#, etc.)
be bar chords.
