Notes: The dominant instrument on the recorded track is
piano, but I have a strong sense that Phil wrote “Under
the Grace” on guitar. Anyway, the song changes keys after
the bridge. If you are an expert guitarist, you can find
your way through all the unusual chords (e.g., F#/A#).
Others may want to use a spring-clamp capo on the second
fret (Capo 2) after the bridge going into the last chorus.
What a great song about God’s grace! Enjoy.—Maury
[Intro] A F#m C#m E
La, la, la (repeat)
[Verse 1]
[A]I lie awake in the [F#m]middle of the night [C#m]again[E]
[A]I try to make some [F#m]sense of it all rushi[C#m]ng in[E]
[A]There's so much I feel w[F#m]ithin this heart of mine
[Bm]I well up inside and my [F#m]eyes [E/G#]they overfl[D/A]ow
[A]For I kn[E]ow it is gr[A]ace[F#m][C#m][E]
[Verse 2]
[A]The look of love in the[F#m] shape of your face I have[C#m] know[E]n
[A]It speaks of this [F#m]deep sacrifice you have [C#m]shown[E]
[A]And the wonder of it all[F#m] is I didn't deserve this
[B]I couldn't have planned [F#m]it so right
[E/G#]And so my [D/A]eyes th[A]ey over[E]flow
[D/A]Let it rain,[A] let it pour[E], let it go
[D/A]For I [A]know this,[E] yes I know
[F#m]It is gr[E/G#]ace[D]
[Chorus]
[A]And the hungerin[C#m]g heart seeks [F#m]for its plac[D]e a[E]nd a home
[A]And it may tear you apart
[C#m]When you see wh[F#m]at this grace her[D]e ha[Bm]s done
[F#m]Fly, [E/G#]fly all you [D/A]burdens [A]go fly a[E]way[D/A]
It's h[A]ere I rem[E]ain [D/A]
[A]Under the g[E]race, the g[A]race
[Bridge]
[F]It seems there is so little [Am]time to make [G]amen[D/F#]ds he[G7]re
[C]If not for you, well, then [Am]I'm without a[D] f[A/C#]riend [B]her[F#]e
(Capo option here)
[Chorus 2 without capo]
Oh, oh, oh
[G#mi] [F#/A#] [E]
And the [B]hungering heart [D#m]seeks for its [G#m]place and a [E]hom[F#]e
[B]It may tear you apart
[D#m]When you see wha[G#m]t this grace her[E]e has do[C#m]ne
[G#m]Fly, [F#/A#]fly all you [E/B]burdens [B]go fly a[F#]way[E/B]
It's he[B]re I rema[F#]in [E/B]
[B]Under the [F#]grace, the [G#m]grace[F#/A#][E]
[B]I lie wake in the [G#m]middle of the night[D#m] again[F#]
