The Yellow Stud
1st verse:
Som[Cm]ewhere on the pra[Eb]irie a yellow[F] stud runs fre[Ab]e,
ru[Cm]nnin through the sagebr[Eb]ush d[G]own through the coolies.
and th[Cm]ere not far behi[Eb]nd him, a cowboy rid[F]es along.[Ab]
He's g[Cm]onna try to ca[F]tch him and br[G]eak him for his ow[Cm]n.
2nd verse:
The c[Cm]hase goes on all mornin and [Eb]late into [F]th day[Ab]
the c[Cm]owboy changes horses he st[Eb]aked along[G] the way
the s[Cm]tud is growin wea[Eb]ker now an[F]d gettin short of w[Ab]ind
he ru[Cm]ns into a trap cor[F]ral the c[G]owboy shuts him [Ab]in
3rd verse:
The y[Cm]ellow stud with w[Eb]ild eyes, the fe[F]ared, hated m[Ab]an
final[Cm]ly standin fac[E]e to face in the h[G]ot, dusty sand
the b[Cm]attle starts and [Eb]rages on ben[F]eath the b[Ab]urnin sun
the c[Cm]owoboy tried but c[F]ouldn't ride this y[G]ellow outlaw s[Cm]tud.
4th verse:
(recitation) He s[Cm]old him to a ro[Eb]deo, and it spr[F]ead thoughout the la[Ab]nd
the le[Cm]gend of this yel[Eb]low stud, the ba[G]ddest of the bad
(sing)And t[Cm]hen one day at ch[Eb]eyenne we kn[F]ew it had to c[Ab]ome
the b[Cm]est of all bronc ri[F]ders, he dr[G]ew that yellow s[Cm]tud
5th verse:
the wooden gate few open and the stud had bailed out high
an explosion of yellow horse seemed to fill the sky
the stud kept gettin stronger and thrashin up the earth
the cowboy blew a stirrup and crashed into the dirt.
6th verse:
so violently the stud had bucked that he slipped and fell.
as he went down his backbone snapped
the yellow stud lay still
7th verse:
(recitation)As the cowboys gathered round him, i heard one of em say
There'll never be another bronc like the one that died today
But out there on the prairie there's a mare with mustang blood
and a colt runs close beside her, a yellow outlaw stud.
