This is a great Nick Lowe song. I couldn't beleive it wasn't already posted here, so I
had to figure it out for myself. Listen to the song for the strum pattern. I play this
with open chords except for the last part of the chorus, where I use a barred A chord
starting at the 7th fret, up through the 5th, 4th and ending at the 2nd.
Intro/main chord progression:
[A] [E] [D]
[D] [E] [A]
[A] [E] [D]
[E] [A]
Verse 1:
[A]I get it [E]every [D]day
[D]I'm getting [E]used to [A]it
[A]Now every [E]time it [D]hits
[E]My heart [A]quits
[A]I wear a [E]little [D]smile
[D]While swal[E]lowing [A]the dirt
[A]But under[E]neath my [D]shirt
[E]My heart [A]hurts
(Intro chords)
Verse 2:
[A]It's murder [E]but it's [D]nice
[D]Getting [E]away with [A]it
[A]The time you [E]let it [D]slip
[E]I liked [A]it
[A]My fingers [E]and my [A]thumbs
[D]Overcome [E]me with [A]mirth
[A]But under[E]neath my [D]shirt
[E]My heart [A]hurts
(strum A for 4 bars leading into chorus)
Chorus:
[D]Lord, if [E]you're [A]lonely
[E]You [D]Must be out [E]of your [A]mind
[E]Lord, [B]if [E]you're lonely
[B] [E] [D] [C#] [B]
Verse 3:
[A]I get it [E]every [D]day
[D]I'm getting [E]used to [A]it
[A]Now every [E]time it [D]hits
[E]My heart [A]quits
[A]Your taste [E]is for the [D]task
[D]Your fondness [E]is to [D]flirt
[A]But under[E]neath my [D]shirt
[E]My heart [A]hurts
(Intro chords)
(Strum A 4 bars leading into chorus)
(Chorus)
(Repeat verse 1)
Repeat main chord progression 4x to fade, with no lyrics except "My heart hurts" at the
appropriate part at the end. I'm not entirely sure that the second half of the chorus is
correct. May be missing a chord in there. Anyways, this is pretty close, if not 100%.
