This is one of my favorite Beach House songs. It took me quite a while to get
used to the album version because it sounds more optimistic than the single
version, and I like sad songs better. But both versions are awesome, and the
chords don't differ from each other that much. This is a very simple song,
but it wasn't easy figuring out those hidden chords in the third and fourth
verses. Enjoy some happy sadness...
USED TO BE (single version)
by Beach House
Intro D
You are [A]coming home
Are you still alone
Are you [G]not the same as you [D]used to be?
As the [A]sun grows high
And you served your time
Does each [G]day just feel like [D]another lie?
[Em]Now you know
Is it just for show
Just a [Bm]foolish game that you [F#m]hide behind
Don't for[Em]get the nights
When it [G]all felt right
Are you [Bm]not the same as you [Em]used to be
Used to be[D]?
In a [A]endless night
Did you feel the fright
Of an a[G]ge that was and could [D]never be
So we [A]hold it close
When we feel the most
Like a [G]love that we could not [D]leave behind
[Em]We turn the wheel
To which way we feel
Till I'm [Bm]lost and I can not [F#m]find you there
Don't for[Em]get the nights
when it [G]all felt right
Are you [Bm]not the same as you [Em]used to be?
Used to b[D]e
Even if I [G]try so hard
Would we still be [D]coming to an end
Even if we [A]spoke the same words
Would we still be [G]termed as friends?
Even if its [G]simple from the start
We will give the [D]pieces of our hearts
And when there is [A]nothing left to pretend
We will know its [G]coming to an end
[G]We could wait until the summer
[D]See what happeneds to each other
[A]We could wait inside all summer
[G]See what happeneds to each other
[D]
