The Place I Love
Paul Weller of the Jam
>From "All Mod Cons"
This is the improved version: new words and chord fix courtesy
of Davide Musiani
The opening riff is kinda like:
E -|---------------------
B -|---------------------
G -|---------------------
D -|---------------------
A -|--------7-5-7-5------
E -|---5-5----------7---- Repeated 8 times.
Then it goes into an A B E progression. 1 bar A, 1 bar B, two bars E.
I play it kind of ska-like because I can't quite get the
chunk-a-chunka rhythm from the record. Play the progression twice
and then over the verses.
[A] The place I l[B]ove is a million m[C]iles away.
[A] It's too f[B]ar for the eye to see[C].
[Bm] Still it's m[E]e at least, [A] and you can't c[F#m]ome there.
[A] No one i[B]s allowed at a[C]ll.
[Bm] Only a[E]nimals that love, will [A]always, on[F#m]ly ever could be.
[A] And it's al[B]ways in the back of my mi[E]nd.
(riff 4 times)
[A] The place I [B]love is overgrown n[E]ow,
[A] with beautiful [B]moss and colorful [E]flowers.
[Bm] And goldfish [E]that swim in a[A] pool, the[F#m]res a small brick wall
[A] With neon lig[B]htings controlled by [E]lightning.
[Bm] I'm makin' a s[E]tand against the world
[A] There's those that would h[F#m]urt us if they heard.
[A] And it's a[B]lways in the back of my m[E]ind.
(riff 4 times)
[A] The place I l[B]ove is nowhere near [E]here.
[A] Not within a [B]yard of the trendy d[E]o's
[Bm] Where dogsbodies p[E]ick you up, [A] and gra[F#m]ciously give you a lift
[A] with cherished th[B]oughts and bittern[E]ess.
[Bm] I'm makin' a st[E]and against the world
[A] There's those that would h[F#m]urt us if they heard.
[A] And it's a[B]lways in the back of my m[E]ind.
