When I was just [C]a kid I'd go to town on Saturday[F][C]
And on the [F]street I'd [C]listen to the [D7]old blind fiddler [G7]play
[C]He was close to no one though his [F]life was almost [C]gone
But to [F]me he [C]was my friend and always [G7]played such pretty [C]songs
People dropped their nickels in his [F]cup as they walked [C]by
Sometimes [F]he would [C]play so sad [D7]yet I just have to [G7]cry
[C]Then one day I went to town to [F]hear the old man [C]play
But he was [F]gone and [C]someone said [G7]the old man passed [C]away
I can still hear him [F]playing[C][F][G7]
And [C]when people stop to [F]listen
He would [G7]say God walked beside you all the [C]way
And I'd [F]listen to the [G7]old blind fiddler [C]play
A week or so ago one night I [F]had the strangest [C]dream
I dreamed I [F]went to [C]heaven and I [D7]heard a million [G7]strings
[C]And standing there I heard the music [F]blow from heaven [C]sky
And for the first time [F]in my [C]life I saw the [G7]color of his [C]eyes
And I can still hear them [F]playing[C][F][G7]
And [C]he shook my hand and [F]told me
[G7]Son I knew we'd meet again some [C]day
And once [F]again I heard the [G7]old blind fiddler [F]pl[G7]-a-[C]y
