Tabbed by Dan Hamer (footyfandan@hotmail.com)
This is a tab submitted to correct someone elses version of the song, which I reckon is
Rhythm is really easy, the only real point being that the A in the chorus is just simply
downstrokes and releasing your fingers from the fret board after each stroke from what I
pick up. Don't know what the technical name for that is but I hope you understand. Enjoy!
Standard Tuning (EADGBE)
CAPO ON 2ND FRET
Intro: D Bm G A
From N[D]orthernden to Partington it's r[Bm]ain
From A[G]ltrincham to Chadderton it's r[A]ain
From M[D]oss Side to Swinton hardly S[Bm]pain
It's a p[G]icture postcard of 'wish they never c[A]ame'
And whilst that d[G]eckchair in the garden it makes no s[D]ense
It d[A]oesn't spoil the view or cause off[D]ence
Those F[G]loridas, Bavarias and K[D]ents
Make g[A]entlemen wear shorts but don't make g[D]ents
So con[D]vertibles stay garage-bound
Save [Bm]after-sun for later
If [G]rain makes Britain great
Then [A]Manchester is greater
As you [D]dry your clothes once again
Up[Bm]on the radiator
[G]What makes Britain great
Makes [A]Manchester yet greater
[D] [Bm] [G] [A]
From [D]Cheetham Hill to Wytenshawe it's [Bm]rain
[G]Gorton, Salford, Sale pretty much the [A]same
As I'm [D]caught without my jacket once [Bm]again
The [G]raindrops on my face play a sweet re[A]fain
And as [G]winter turns reluctantly to [D]spring
For the [A]clouds above the city there's one last [D]fling
[G]Swallows build their nests, chaffinch [D]sing
And the [A]sun strolls into town like long lost [D]king
So con[D]vertibles stay garage-bound
Save [Bm]after-sun for later
If [G]rain makes Britain great
Then [A]Manchester is greater
As you [D]dry your clothes once again
Up[Bm]on the radiator
[G]What makes Britain great
Makes [A]Manchester yet greater
And the [G]mood of this whole sodden place is [D]melancholy
Like the [A]sun came out to play, shone through the [D]clouds but dropped its lolly
And [G]everyone looks so disappointed, [D]so, so sorry
Like the [A]rain blew into town, kidnapped the [D]sun and stole it's brolly
[G] [A] [D]
So con[D]vertibles stay garage-bound
Save [Bm]after-sun for later
If [G]rain makes Britain great
Then [A]Manchester is greater
As you [D]dry your clothes once again
Up[Bm]on the radiator
