#This is a remarkably easy song of off Sister Hazel's fantastic second album,
#Fortress. I know for a fact that the basic chords are right, but they may have
#some variations here and there of the regular chord. Listen to the song to get
#the strumming and change pattern, especially between the F and C in the verses.
#This is my first tab, so if you find a problem, either post a fix or email me at

There is alot of solo work and riffs going on throughout the entire song.
Being a singer and not an fantastic guitarist, I can't figure them out,
and if I could, I wouldn't be able to play them and sing at the same time.
I'm sure they're not hard for someone who can play lead.
Intro: G Am F C G
Verse 1:
[G]It's bitter -
[Am]It tastes alot like winter.
And [F]will it[C], releas[G]e me?
[G]So heavy -
[Am]How much more to bring down the levy
And [F]kill me?[C] Don't kill[G] me.
Chorus:
[G]I've been [D]stayin' hig[Em]h.
And I've been [C]feeling sorry [G]for myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]And I've been [D]ressurecting [Em]my,
My [C]fortress to p[G]rotect myself. [D] [Em] [C]
Verse 2:
[G]Shattered -
[Am]Tired, beaten, worn down and tattered and
[F]Can you[C] even h[G]ear me?
[G]What do you expect out of me?
I'm being [Am]buried alive and screaming,
Can't you [F]see [C]- oh, can't you [G]see me?
Chorus:
[G]I've been [D]stayin' hig[Em]h.
And I've been [C]feeling sorry [G]for myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]And I've been [D]ressurecting [Em]my,
My [C]fortress to p[G]rotect myself. [D] [Em] [C]
Verse 3:
[G]Weary -
[Am]My hands slapped I'm cautious and leary
of [F]tryin' [C]- oh but I'm t[G]ryin'
[G]How am I to figure it out?
All [Am]along I've been kicking around
Without my h[F]ome, y[C]eah - I'm [G]so lost, so lost.
Chorus:
[G]I've been [D]stayin' hig[Em]h.
And I've been [C]feeling sorry [G]for myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]And I've been [D]ressurecting [Em]my,
My [C]fortress to p[G]rotect myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]I've been [D]stayin' hig[Em]h.
And I've been [C]feeling sorry [G]for myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]And I've been [D]ressurecting [Em]my,
My [C]fortress to p[G]rotect myself. [D] [Em] [C]
[G]Na na [D]na na na na
[Em]Na na [C]na na na na na [G]na
[G]Na na [D]na na na na
[Em]Na na [C]na na na na na [G]na...
Naturally you're playing this song for a big crowd of people. Get them to
sing some "na na na's" for ya. Great song. Even better band.
I hope you enjoy this tab. I know that it's hard to find the lesser known
Sister Hazel tabs around. If I feel motivated I might get the rest of the
CD done that isn't posted yet.
Adios!
