Song: "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall"
Artist: Coldplay
Album: Every Teardrop is a Waterfall-Single (6/3/11)
The D chords in this song could be played either as a 6/9 or just an add9. I prefer the
6/9 because it makes for an easier transition to the A. During the verses, the A chord
has a C# bass, so don't let that throw you off when the A sounds weird. The acoustic
plays a normal A, and later the bass will play the C#.
Let me explain how to play this. The acoustic guitar, or guitar 1, is at the beginning
of the tab and goes from start to finish of the song, for that guitar only. But within
the Gtr. 1 tab, you'll notice "Play Gtr. 2: Part2" or "Play Bass: Part 1." This tells
you when to play the tabs for the other guitars, which are tabbed below the Gtr. 1 tab. Each
part for each instrument should be in the order of the song.
I did it this way because it was the best layout I could devise to keep everything in
order and separate. Hopefully it makes sense to everyone. Enjoy!
Tabbed by: Patrick Cooper (Coldplayfan42) and Matthew Sasser
Guitar 1: acoustic/standard (EADGBE)
Guitar 2: electric/standard (EADGBE)
Bass: electric/standard (EADG)
Intro/Verse: Synth D6/9, A, D6/9, A
I turn the [D6/9]music up,
I got my records on,
I shut the w[A]orld outside,
until the lights come on.
Maybe the [D6/9]street's all right,
maybe the trees are gone,
I feel my [A]heart start beating,
to my favorite song. (Gtr. 1 enters)
And all the [D6/9]kids they dance,
all the kids all night,
until [A]Monday morning feels another life.
I turn the [F#m7sus4]music up,
I'm on a roll this time,
and [D6/9]Heaven is in sight.
Interlude: A, D6/9, A, D6/9, A, D6/9, A, D6/9
Play: Guitar 2: Part 1
Verse 2: Play: Guitar 2: Part 2 (Play throughout the verse, fairly quietly)
Play: Bass: Part 1
I turn the [D6/9]music up,
I got my records on,
from under[A]neath the rubble,
sing a rebel song.
Don't want to [D6/9]see another generation drop,
I'd rather [A]be a comma, than a full stop.
Maybe I'm [D6/9]in the black,
maybe I'm on my knees,
maybe I'm [A]in the gap,
between the two trapezes.
But my[F#m7sus4] heart is beating,
and my pulses start,
cath[D6/9]edrals in my heart.
Pre-Chorus: Play Guitar 2: Part 2
Play Bass: Part 2
And we[D6/9] saw oh this [C#m]light, I swear [F#m7sus4]you,
emerge blinking into,
to [D6/9]tell me it's all right.
As we [D6/9]soar wal[C#m]ls, every siren is a [F#m7sus4]symphony,
And every tear's a [D6/9]waterfall.
Play: Guitar 2: Part 1
Is a water[A]fall,
[D6/9]oh,
is a water[A]fall,
oh oh [D6/9]oh,
is a is a water[A]fall,
every [D6/9]tear is a is a water[A]fall,
oh oh [D6/9]oh.
So you can [E]hurt,
hurt me [D6/9]bad.
But still I'll r[C#m]aise,[D6/9]
the [A]flag.
Chorus
Play: Guitar 2: Part 1
Play: Bass: Part 3
[A] [D6/9] Oh,
It was a[A] wa wa wa wa[D6/9] watefall.
a [A]wa wa wa wa[D6/9] waterfall.
Ending: Full drums enter Gtr. 1: plays D6/9, A throughout the rest of the song. Play:
Gtr. 2: Part 2
Play: Bass: Part 4
Every tear,
every tear,
every teardrop is a waterfall.
Every tear,
every tear,
every teardrop is a waterfall.
Gtr. 2 Part 1: REPEAT 4X
Gtr. 2 Part 2: (not exact amount of times each chord is played, just listen for the change)
Bass: Part 1:(Verse 2)(Hold each note for two measures, except for the 9s, which are
quarter notes, so play them with every hit of the bass drum)
Bass: Part 2: "As we saw..oh this light.." (Quarter notes)REPEAT 2X
Bass: Part 3: Interlude "Is a waterfall, oh.." Played at: 2:13 and 2:45
