[Dsus]I set a friend of mine up on a date
And I told him I'd watch his boy for the day
And we [G]had a ball playing games, eating d[A]ogs
Riding rides[Dsus] at the county fair
I thought he was just being a kid
When we got back to my place and he did what the did
On a balloon [G]that he won he wrote mommy I had fun [A]
And I miss[Dsus]ed you and I wished you there
I [Em]wasn't sure what he had in mind till he j[A]umped up and ran o[Em]utside [A]
And he let it go, and[G] he[A] waved good-bye [D]
Or was it hello, I d[G]on[A]'t know but I died inside [D]
I can still see [Bm]his excitement in pointing and[A] smiling
When it wa[D]s gone as it could get [G]
And he turned and asked me, [Em]
[A]Think it's in heaven yet
[Dsus]I struggled for something to say
I was too choked up lacking the kind of faith
He ha[G]d in his heart before I [A]could start he walked me back insid[Dsus]e
He gave me his crayola pen and said I'll bet there's a message
That you'd like to send, and no doubt he was right [G]
It been lock[A]ed up inside since my grandpa said [Dsus]good-bye
I [Em]took that yellow balloon and [A]wrote till I [Em]ran out of room [A]
And I let it go, an[G]d [A]we waved good-bye [D]
That seven-year old Lord he[G] op[A]ened my eyes [D]
I can still see [Bm]his excitement in pointing and [A]smiling
