4x Gm A# D# D#
[Gm]I like the p[A#]owder blue dresses[D#]
The stewardesses wear on Korean Ai[Gm]r.
The skin's div[A#]ine and their bodies so fi[D#]ne.
They're all the same height and they have the same wai[Gm]stline.
But there is o[A#]ne who stood apar[D#]t
Her name-tag read "J.H. Pa[Gm]rk."
She had a white wat[A#]ch and a muted [D#]spark,
And I thought about her when the night grew d[F]ark
And my [Gm]hotel room in Tok[D#]yo,
And by the time that I aw[F]oke,
My guitar was br[Gm]oken and in need of repa[D#]ir.
Thanks for the hassles, Korean [F]Air.
But I hurled myse[Gm]lf through one last show[D#]
And I made a few friends, Shoko and Kok[F]o.
Walked them down t[Gm]o the train station be[D#]low,
Hugged them goodbye and as I walked back I...
[Gm]Remembered a g[A#]irl who I had lo[D#]st.
She grew up in a cardboard bo[Gm]x
In a to[A#]wn called Dharma.[D#]
She shook my spirit and she rattled my [Gm]thoughts.
But I had [A#]some love back ho[D#]me,
So I never pursued it or called her telepho[Gm]ne number.
I wo[A#]nder if she knew that [D#]I had reason,
I wonder if she thought that I had us[F]ed her.
And by the ti[Gm]me that I awok[D#]e,
Around my neck I felt fingers choke.
[F]I felt a jol[Gm]t of an electrical stin[D#]g,
I felt the pull of an invisible st[F]ring.
Is it my fut[Gm]ure falling?[D#]
Or is it the past still calling?
[F]I can't remember and yo[Gm]u can't make me remember[D#]
Anything that hurts or makes me shiver.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member
My dirty reflecti[F]on shimmering in the rain.
[A#]I can't remember and y[D#]ou can't make me remem[Gm]ber
Old forgotten blues[F] when we opened my house.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member.[F]
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member.[F]
[2#] [Gm] [F] [A#] [A#]
[Gm]Was five years o[A#]ld the last time I sle[D#]pt
A quiet night before the loudness cr[Gm]ept.
I wrote poetry throug[A#]hout my teens[D#],
And I far exceeded my childhood drea[Gm]ms.
Teachers told me I c[A#]ouldn't write[D#],
That I'd never make a living or touch anyon[Gm]e's life.
People told me I c[A#]ouldn't sing,[D#]
That I wouldn't amount to much of anythi[F]ng.
And by the ti[Gm]me that I aw[D#]oke,
I was 25 years old and crossing an oceans,
[F]Working hard[Gm] to develop my sou[D#]nd
Going city to city, covering groun[F]d.
And by the ti[Gm]me that I had aw[D#]oke
I was one of a handful of the chose[F]n
To take the pu[Gm]nches to take the a[D#]rrows
To bleed the blood, the blood of sweat.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member
Any hurtful words that I e[F]ndured.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member
When I was a lost fl[F]ockless bird.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member
When I couldn't t[F]rap bumblebees.
[A#]I can't remember an[D#]d you can't make me re[Gm]member
Why in a [F]crowd I am so lon[Gm]ely[F].[A#][A#][Gm][F][A#][A#]
[Gm]I met the most b[A#]eautiful love[D#]r,
Walking along the San Francisco B[Gm]ay.
She guides me thr[A#]ough the peri[D#]ls,
Through the long, unlit hallwa[Gm]ys.
Below the surface,[A#] beneath the distracti[D#]ons
Beneath my dumb, knee-jerk reactions.
[Gm]It's to her I ow[A#]e everything,[D#]
It is for her that my heart sings.
[Gm]And by the [A#]time that I awoke[D#]
the fingers loosened on their c[Gm]hoke
And by the t[A#]ime that I aw[D#]oke.
